Developing Empathy, Diminishing Ageism
A program of ONEgeneration, Sages & Seekers is a structured intergenerational program that builds meaningful, one-to-one relationships between Sages (adults age 60+) and Seekers (students ages 12–24). The program is designed to reduce ageism, combat social isolation, and foster empathy and understanding across generations.
Through authentic, guided conversations, participants exchange life experiences, wisdom, and diverse perspectives. Seekers strengthen social-emotional awareness while developing interviewing, listening, writing, and public-speaking skills. The program also offers a trusted, nonjudgmental space for young people to reflect on personal experiences and challenges. Sages benefit from a renewed sense of purpose, value, and community connection. The opportunity to share life stories with an engaged listener supports meaningful life review, generativity, and lasting interpersonal connection.
Together, these relationships create powerful learning experiences that enrich individuals, strengthen communities, and bridge generational divides.
Our curriculum encourages open dialogue, mutual understanding, and the discovery of common ground—helping to break down age-related stereotypes and build mutual respect.
