Sending Help And Real Essentials

“Adopt a Senior” and help them get household items this Holiday Season

ONEgeneration serves low income seniors and families year round. We provide meals, scholarships, social services and an array of programming to help these individuals however they are in need of items that our organization simply can not provide. Several years ago the SHARE project was established for individuals to give back to another in need in there own community. Sometimes these needs are as basic as a can opener, a fan or toilet paper. Donors’ generosity in the past has led to frail homebound seniors receiving new wheelchairs, hospital-style beds and refrigerators.

Below you will find a letter with more information and a form to submit if you are interested in adopting a senior or family this summer or during the holiday season. You will receive a profile for your specific family or individual in need. The profile will provide a brief history of the individual as well as a list of their needs and suggestions for a few items that would lift their spirits. We call these items “luxury items”, for example yarn for a senior who loves to knit or a new mystery book for a senior unable to get out to the library where she worked for 40 years.

If you or someone you know would be interested in personally giving to a senior or family this year please see the following attachments and join the SHARE project in helping someone less fortunate within your own community.

Enriching Lives Giving Campaign

ONEgeneration’s Enriching Lives Giving Campaign is a multi-year gift that generates income that can be used for direct services. The larger the fund we build, the more income we will have available for our programs. This support creates an ongoing upsurge of interest and leads to other funding opportunities including grants, matching gifts, planned gifts and so forth. For our Enrichment Circle members, the value of multi-year giving is enormous, and, in honor of those who have given, a permanent recognition site is visible at our Daycare facility as a thank you to our friends and supporters.

Please click here for more information on the Enriching Lives Giving Campaign.

Wills and Bequests

Remembering ONEgeneration in your estate plan is one of the most caring and important actions that you can take. Your gift will be used in the program area you indicate and thousands of individuals will benefit from your generosity. This year we received a generous bequest from a woman who remembered us in her will; she had been a client of ONEgeneration since 1986. Her bequest ensures that other individuals will continue to benefit from our services – just as she did.

Planned Giving

Estate Planning offers many ways in which you can support ONEgeneration while also gaining tax benefits and avoiding capital gains taxes. With certain types of trusts, you may be able to increase your current income while supporting your favorite non-profit. Types of Planned Giving vehicles include (but are not limited to):

  • Gifts of Life Insurance
  • Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts

As with any investment plan, you should speak to your attorney, CPA, and financial advisor before setting up such a plan and discussing with them which vehicles will serve you best.

If you are interested in any of these methods of giving, especially those dealing with any legalities, please consult your accountant and/or attorney, then call (818) 708-6370 or email info@onegeneration.org.
