Women’s Support Group
Thursday 10:00 – 11:15

The members of this group have personal discussions in a safe space. Led by Nancy, participants relate stories about what happened to them since the last time they met, and ask how each others families are doing.

When someone shares a story, they also talk about how it made them feel, good or bad. Before other members offer advice, Nancy asks them to think about how they react first, and then to provide support.

Everyone is encouraged to contribute and if they prefer not to, that’s okay. But usually advice and encouragement is offered. The vibe ranges from moments of quiet understanding to lively, active discussion, always in an atmosphere of shared trust.

The participants exchange words of wisdom on facing the last third of life, and how to make the most of it. A member of the group volunteered that she was about to turn 68 and everyone is surprised, exclaiming “I thought you were younger!” She asks the others for their advice on how she should spend her time.

The advice she receives from the group is varied and helpful:

  • Do something for others — volunteer!
  • Do something with your husband and appreciate you have someone next to you.
  • Take some time to yourself —at our age you don’t have to moving all the time — don’t feel guilty about doing nothing!
  • Take a class: Acting lessons! Swimming! Yoga!

One of the members sums it up:  the idea is you can still have some kind of success, no matter your age. And have a good time!

That’s sound advice for any age, and if this sounds like the kind of class for you, then come on down this Thursday.
