Exercise Through Hula Dance
Monday 1:30 – 3:00
This class is taught by Lilly, a former basketball player who majored in PE and now prefers dance as a way to keep fit.
Lilly had taken the Line Dancing class at the ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center and saw that it only works the bottom half of the body. So she decided to learn Hula because the traditional Hawaiian dance uses the whole body, even the hands. She loved it so much she decided to teach it here at OSEC, and has been doing so for about one year now.
Lilly, who is a very cheery person and encourages all her students to smile as part of the dance, starts the class with some nice (you guessed it) Hawaiian music and eases the students into a gentle warm up.
Then, it is time to have fun, which to Lilly is the whole point. She even supplies paper flowers.
“I want everybody to smile, look nice, and be happy!” says Lilly. “It’s nice and easy, but it’s still good exercise!”
Lilly encourages newcomers, explaining anyone can try it and will get something out of it. So bring your Aloha spirit and join Lilly and the class for a Hula good time!
