Immigration Services

The Senior Enrichment Center is pleased to be able to provide immigration and citizenship counseling to our ONEgeneration family and the community at large. Given the diverse population of the San Fernando Valley, we felt the services being offered by Ginny Hatfield, an immigration and citizenship consultant, would be a much needed addition to the many social services we now offer.

Ginny will maintain regular office hours at the Center and also be available to see clients on an as-needed basis. She will assist persons who are seeking to become U.S. citizens and those individuals who wish to petition for family members living in the U.S. or abroad. This will be a fee for service program helping to benefit ONEgeneration.

Ginny works closely with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service, formerly known as the Immigration & Naturalization Service. She will be able to prepare and file client applications and answer questions relating to the various application processes. For example, clients seeking citizenship would receive the following services: orientation, prescreening (to ensure eligibility), preparation & submittal of the N-400 application, assistance with any problems throughout the process. In addition to citizenship, ONEgeneration's services will also include applications for:
Family Petitions, Adjustment of Status, Work Permits, FiancĂ© (e) Visas, Green Card renewals and replacements, Travel Permits, and U.S. Passports.

THE BENEFITS OF CITIZENSHIP

Have you ever considered the benefits of citizenship?

·         The right to vote in national, state, and local elections
·         The ability to hold public office
·         The ability to apply for and work in certain government jobs
·         Freedom from deportation if you commit certain unlawful acts
·         Access to a U.S. passport which allows you to travel freely throughout the world
·         The right to live in a foreign country for as long as you wish
·         Possessing a status that you don’t have to renew every ten years—citizenship is essentially a permanent privilege
·         The ability to petition for close family members to join you here in the U.S.

This last benefit, in particular, is what draws most modern day immigrants to the U.S. Many legal permanent residents AKA green card holders, count the days until they become U.S. citizens so that they can petition for loved ones living abroad in many cases in rather perilous circumstances.

As part of the Immigration & Citizenship Service that ONEgeneration is sponsoring, we offer a citizenship class for those persons who are legal permanent residents and wish to become citizens. The class is free but a $5.00 donation is suggested. The course will review U.S. history and civics to prepare participants for the naturalization interview and test.

Class will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30PM to 5:00PM at the Senior Enrichment Center, 18255 Victory Blvd., Reseda.  All inquiries along with class registration should be directed to Ginny Hatfield, our Immigration Consultant at 818-708-6380.
